Dr. Barbara M. Amos

Preacher, lecturer and teacher, Dr. Barbara M. Amos is a messenger of the Gospel and its practical application in moving individuals, families, and communities to total wellness. Because of her tenacity and unmistakable anointing, people throughout the world have been transformed through their submission to the God of unconditional love and justice.

With over thirty-four years of full-time ministry service, Dr. Amos is thoroughly committed to the mandate to share the Good News of the Gospel in “word and deed.”

After serving five years as a full-time musician for Grammy-award winning gospel singer Shirley Caesar, Dr. Amos traveled extensively conducting seminars, workshops and evangelistic services. In September of 1986, Dr. Amos founded Faith Deliverance Christian Center, Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia. The inner-city ministry seeks to meet the holistic needs of the community through diverse outreach endeavors. On July 4, 1992, “The Miracle on 26th Street,”a debt-free, state-of-the-art complex was completed. Additionally, in 1992, she founded Faith Academy School of Excellence, a Christian school offering curricula concentrated in mathematics, science, technology, and spiritual and cultural awareness for students in preschool through the 8th grade.

In 1999, Dr. Amos resigned as pastor of Faith Deliverance Christian Center to serve as Executive Director of Dorcas, Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia. Dorcas, Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to promoting spiritual, educational and economic wellness in impoverished communities in America and throughout the world. In an effort to fulfill the Great Commission, Dr. Amos travels to Haiti, Belize, West Africa and provides a myriad of resources to several nations abroad. She is also the founder of Faith Deliverance Christian Fellowship and currently serves as the pastor of Kinston Christian Center in Kinston, North Carolina.

Dr. Amos holds a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia and has done graduate studies in Social Work at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. She is a graduate of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, receiving a Master of Divinity degree, magna cum laude and has earned a Doctor of Ministry from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA.
